REIKI
Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a natural complementary therapy that helps the body relax and promotes healing.
Reiki is a simple, safe and non-invasive Japanese technique that can relax tense muscles and decrease stress and anxiety. Reiki can be a beneficial therapy for pain management and has been shown to increase a cancer patient’s perceived overall health and quality of life.
Reiki is an effective integrative complement to a comprehensive cancer treatment plan. Complementary therapies such as Reiki, Healing Touch and Yoga do not substitute for medical treatment but can enhance treatment. Studies have shown that complementary therapy can help a patient’s tolerance to side effects, reduce stress and improve feelings of well being.
During a Reiki session you relax on a massage table, fully clothed in comfortable clothing, while the Reiki Practitioner holds his/her hands on or above you in a series of specific hand positions that are held for several minutes at a time. Recipients have reported sensations of warmth, tingling, heat, sleepiness, relaxation, invigoration, peace, emotions, coolness, or perhaps nothing at all. You may fall asleep during your session which can be normal when the body has been under stress or is tired.
Because Reiki has no side effects or complications, it can be performed on patients anytime, helping them to relax and to reduce anxiety. The healing process has multiple levels: biological, emotional, mental and spiritual. Reiki or Healing Touch therapies remind us in a time of incredible medical advances and technology, there is wisdom in the traditional values of caring and the human touch.
A treatment can last thirty minutes to an hour. Three sessions close together can be effective during acute illness or recovery. Sessions can be scheduled as needed. Also, you can learn to do Reiki to yourself or someone else.
Reiki is a calming technique that is effective for all ages from infants to seniors and even pets. There is no religion associated with Reiki nor are any religious rituals part of a session.
Benefits of Reiki
The experience of Reiki varies with each individual and may help to:
Reduce the negative side effects of medical treatment
Increase energy & vitality
Increase feelings of harmony, well-being & balance
Relieve nausea

Increase clarity of thoughts
Facilitate the natural abilities of the body to heal physical
and emotional disease
Complements all medical treatment and can promote recovery
Can be learned by everyone
Safe and effective for all ages
Reiki will never cause harm
